Data in Our District

Here at WCSD#1, Technology is a big part of your students' learning. We work hard every day to make sure your students' data while using technology is protected. We have policies in place to protect student data when used with third-party programs that we implement in our classrooms. We have agreements with companies to make sure the programs we work with are also intentional in protecting your students' data.

 

As a part of the Wyoming Department of Education's larger initiative to use student data in helpful and informative ways, and to operate our District on a day-to-day basis, we utilize a Student Information System to house all necessary student data. The program that we, and most Wyoming Districts utilize, is PowerSchool. 

 

When you enroll your student in our district, you give us permission to utilize this Student Information System to perform necessary tasks. The data we collect from you will include your student's legal name, birthday, gender, home address, race/ethnicity, all necessary contact information for the parents/guardians as well as emergency contacts, immunization and health information, medical insurance information, permissions for internet usage and field trips, living situation, military information, and bussing status.

 

All of this data is utilized to best serve and protect your students while in our school. We do not record Social Security Numbers in our School Information System. As stated above, data is shared via a direct connection to the WDE for data collection purposes. Any other data shared with outside parties is done so carefully, and with the student's information and data privacy in mind.
