Dive into the fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), commonly known as stick welding, in this hands-on 5-week evening course. Designed for adults seeking to explore welding as a hobby or skill, this class emphasizes practical application, safety,
and tool proficiency. Whether you're aiming to enhance your DIY projects or considering a new skill set, this course provides a solid foundation in welding. Join us and ignite your passion for metalworking!
What You’ll Learn:
- Proper setup and operation of SMAW equipment
- Selecting and handling electrodes (e.g., E6010, E7018)
- Executing basic welds in flat and horizontal positions
- Understanding the role of flux and slag in weld quality
- Identifying and correcting common welding defects
- Essential safety practices and tool maintenance
Tools & Safety Gear:
All necessary equipment and safety gear are provided, including welding machines, electrodes, gloves, jackets, and helmets. However, you are welcome to bring your own personal gear if preferred.
Electrodes and metal will also be provided, again you may bring your own, but it is not necessary.
Additional Information:
This course focuses exclusively on SMAW. Should there be sufficient interest, we can discuss offering a follow-up class on Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).
